Intro to the Constitution
LEQ: Students will be able to define the purpose of the U.S. Constitution.
Students will learn the basics of the Constitution to serve as a baseline for understanding and research later in the unit. Students will work in small groups to analyze the language of the Constitution and what it all means.
02
A Living Document
LEQ: Students will be able to explain how amendments are created.
In this lesson, students learn about how amendments are made. This lesson is one of my favorites because it begins with students passing (or blocking) their own amendment! Students move on to explore amendments that have passed and are essential to American government.
03
How We're Protected
LEQ: Students will be able to argue if the U.S. is Constitution equitable to all citizens?
In this 2-day lesson, students participate in a Socratic Seminar to discuss whether or not citizens are treated equitably in the eyes of the Constituion. This lesson was especially interesting to write because it challenges students to look at the Constitution through the lens of language v. practice.
